Boys to Men Canada is a registered federal charity created to guide adolescent boys on their journey to manhood.
Our mission is to help boys become good men, and we are dedicated to providing this opportunity to every boy in need.
Who Are We?
Boys to Men Canada is a community of dedicated men who are able to guide and support young, often fatherless boys on their journey. Our mentors come together from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds to show our participants there are many ways to be a good man.
We have a proven approach to helping young men, and we couldn’t be more excited to lead the charge in a much overdue movement. The circumstances and daily environment that many of our youth experience is absolutely heart breaking. Despite this reality, Boys to Men can’t help but remain passionate and optimistic. We have found a real answer that produces real change.
WHAT We Do
Every week Boys to Men mentors show up to give teenagers a community of mentors who listen, encourage and believe in them. Often, the boys participate seeking the opportunity to deal with the challenges that are facing them. These challenges span from the normal uncertainties and insecurities of growing up, to the personal tragedies that sometimes befall young people such as violence, neglect, mental illness, and addiction. Many of the boys in the program are growing up without a father.
The community-based mentoring approach gives boys a variety of male role models who show up consistently, tell the truth about our struggles as men, ask the boys what kind of man they want to be, praise them for their gifts, support them when they screw up, and encourage them to become the man they want to be. As a result of the work we undertake, our program also becomes a place where adult mentors experience profound personal development—we cannot ask of boys what we will not do as their mentors.
We are dedicated to providing the opportunity our program represents to every boy in need.
WHO DO WE HELP?
Our mission is expansive and inclusive. As a result of established biological factors and social conditioning, boys face unique challenges on their path to positive adulthood. However, we have known for some time that those who are able to benefit from our methodology sometimes have a gender identity outside of the category that has traditionally been defined as “male”.
So, Boys to Men Canada’s journey has mirrored that of our society as both have evolved to honour a range of gender identities and expressions. This approach is in harmony with the spirit of inclusivity that has always characterized the work we do.
